Yasuhiko Taniwaki

Mr. Taniwaki Yasuhiko joined the Ministry of Internal Affairs & Communications in 1984. Since then, he has been in charge of ICT strategy, including an appointment as an Economic Counselor and Telecommunications Attaché at the Embassy of Japan in the US. He was appointed as Director of the Tariff and Telecommunications Access Policy Division as well as Director of the Telecommunications Policy Division, whereby he helped promote competition in the telecommunications service market. Following this, he was appointed as Director of the ICT Policy Division for the Global ICT Strategy Bureau, where he carried out policies in line with the government’s ICT strategy. After serving as Director of the Policy Planning Division for the Minister's Secretariat as well as Deputy Director-General of the Information and Communications Bureau, Mr. Taniwaki was appointed as Deputy Director-General for the National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC) & Councilor for the Cabinet Secretariat from June 2013, during this period he played a leading role in enacting the Basic Act on Cybersecurity and promoted cybersecurity policies in line with the government’s cybersecurity strategy. Since Serving as Director-General of the Global ICT Strategy Bureau, he has been in his current position since July 2017. In addition to publishing four books in Japanese, in the academic field he has served as Guest Professor of the Graduate School of Media Design for Keio University since 2008 and as a Visiting Professor of the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies for the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo since 2015.
