Mr. Takinami was appointed as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on October 4, 2018.
Prior to his current appointment, he served in the House of Councillors (the National Diet’s upper house) as Chief Director of the Committee on Economy, Trade and Industry. He has also held prominent positions within the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), including Acting Director of the Youth Division, Acting Director of the Economy, Trade and Industry Division, and deputy chairperson of the upper house’s LDP Policy Research Council Board.
Mr. Takinami was first elected to the House of Councillors in 2013 as a representative of Fukui, where he was born on October 20, 1971.
Prior to holding elected office, he held several senior positions within the Ministry of Finance, such as Director of the Public Relations Office, Director of the Personnel Planning Office, and Deputy Budget Director of the Budget Bureau.
Mr. Takinami graduated from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law in 1994. He earned a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from the University of Chicago in 1998. He held research positions at Stanford University as Visiting Fellow in 2009-2011 and as Visiting Scholar in 2016.
